Bloat and GDV can kill quickly
A swollen or twisted stomach is a veterinary emergency. Do not wait to see whether symptoms improve.
Possible warning signs
- Repeated unproductive retching or attempts to vomit
- A swollen, tight or painful abdomen
- Restlessness, pacing or inability to get comfortable
- Heavy drooling, rapid breathing, weakness or collapse
- Pale gums or signs of shock

What GDV means
Gastric dilatation-volvulus begins when the stomach fills with gas and may rotate. Expansion and twisting can compromise blood flow, affect nearby organs and lead rapidly to shock. Standard Poodles are a deep-chested breed, so every family should know the signs before an emergency happens.
